1. legislation in late 13th-century England that allowed a conveyor of land to limit its inheritance to the direct descendants of the conveyee and to claim it back if the conveyee's direct line died out (fee tail). The statute consolidated the power to convey in the present possessor of land, effectively strengthening the authority of the feudal lords.
